Drug Testing

Concordia University Texas participates in year round drug testing.  Any athlete associated with CTX athletics will be subjected to random drug testing throughout the year.  The policies, procedures, and substances to be tested for have been provided by the NCAA and Drug Free Sport.  Any drug included in the NCAA's banned substance list will tested for and a subsequent positive test will result in a suspenion from CTX athletics.  For further information about NCAA drug testing visit www.ncaa.org.

***Doctor Prescribed Medication***
If you take a stimulant or peptide hormone as part of a physician prescribed treatment plan and you test positive during a drug test you will not face sanctions for the drug test as long as the medication being taken is currently presribed for you and you have a physicians note on file with the athletic training staff.  The most common medical conditions that a stimulant is prescribed for are ADD and ADHD which commonly results in a person being prescribed Adderall, Ritalin, Dexedrine, or etc.  Athletes who are taking a stimulant must present the following form to their physician to obtain a note which will be kept on file with the athletic training staff.  If you are taking an anabolic agent or peptide hormone, hGH, EPO, etc., you must have pre-approval from the NCAA prior to participation in an NCAA sanctioned sport.

Important information about supplements and drug testing can also be found at www.drugfreesport.com.  Drug Free Sport also offers the resource exchange center, which as a student-athlete, provides you with access to look up banned substances and inquire about supplements you are thinking of taking.  To gain access just ask the athletic training staff for the login ID and password.  All questions remain confidential.

If you are thinking about taking a supplement, check with the athletic training staff or the resource exchange center to determine if the supplement contains any banned substances.

**Supplement Warning**
The supplement industry is under regulated by the U.S. FDA therefore a supplement containing no listed banned substance may be cross contaminated with another product containing a banned substance.  Impure supplements may cause a positive drug test according to the NCAA and Drug Free Sport.  A positive test would result in a suspension despite taking a supplement in which no banned substances are listed on the product label.  All supplements are taken at the risk of the individual taking the supplement.
